Fisheries Programme Assistant

THE FISHMONGERS’ COMPANY

One of the Great Twelve Livery Companies of the City of London, the Fishmongers’ Company‘s Core Purpose continues to be preserving and developing its resources to make a difference in today’s society, especially in fish and fisheries.

Fish and Fisheries. One of the Company’s two main philanthropic arms, the Company’s “Fish Team”, guided by the Company’s Fish and Fisheries Committee, engages widely across the freshwater, marine, aquaculture, fish trade and academic sectors, with the overall aim of promoting a healthy, prosperous and sustainable UK fish and fisheries sector. This is achieved through the delivery of projects and grants, convening and advocacy, and by working in collaboration with like-minded charities and other organisations.

THE POSITION

Reporting directly to the Fisheries Director and Fisheries Programme Managers, this post will help the Fish Team to deliver their Fisheries Programme activities, to further the Company’s core purpose of “making a difference in fish and fisheries”, with a focus on convening, project support, and communications.

KEY TASKS

Assist the management and communication of the outputs from the Company’s Fish and Fisheries Projects, as directed by the Fisheries Director and Programme Managers, with strategic guidance from the Fish and Fisheries Committee. These tasks will include:

a. Assisting with the Fish Team’s convening and advocacy work across the major thematic areas of freshwater and marine fisheries and conservation, sustainable aquaculture, fish trade, early-career development and welfare.

b. Providing support for fisheries projects and assisting with the delivery of key elements of these projects, including through fisheries project events, print and web-based fisheries media and communications for general audiences and technical documents for specialist audiences.

c. Delivering marketing, communication and resource development for the Company’s Master Fishmonger Standard and Fish on Friday programme.

EMPLOYMENT OUTLINE

- Location: Based at Fishmongers’ Hall, London Bridge

- Salary: £29k plus generous pension and other benefits

- Working Hours: 35 hours per week. Out of hours working will be required on occasion

- Contract: Initial one-year fixed term contract, subject to review

- Holiday: 25 days per calendar year plus bank and public holidays

- Eligibility: Proof of right to work in the UK is required
