Within Ricardo Energy & Environment, the Energy Practice's team consists of around 60 consultants who are highly experienced professionals specialising in techno-economic and management consultancy services for the energy sector, with teams working on renewable electricity & heat, combined heat and power, electricity networks and energy & carbon management. The strength of the Energy Practice is our ability to combine strategic, financial/economic and technical advice as an integrated consultancy service to public and private sector clients in the UK and internationally.

We are undertaking increasing amounts of renewable energy work, two of our growth areas are:

Purpose

The primary focus of this recruitment is on 1). In particular the successful candidate would contribute to the successful delivery of the Sustainable Islands International programme, see: https://www.siiscotland.com/.

It would be an advantage if candidates also have experience in local energy systems.

Key competencies and experience

Supply Chain

Over 50 Scottish businesses have joined the Sustainable Islands International programme, with membership continuing to grow. Each member company has an account manager, who establishes a relationship with each of their members, agrees a plan of actions and supports the delivery of this support. To undertake this role we would require candidates to have:

Knowledge ofenergy systems (generation, storage, networks and demand);

Insights into the energy system supply chain: how the different elements can be combined to meet the needs of energy users in different international markets;

The ability to establish an effective relationship with the members using this to agree and deliver an effective suite of support activities;

Flexibility to support multiple companies with different types of request in parallel.

Desirable experience and capabilities include:

Experience in exporting products or services from the UK to international markets;

Insights into relevant target markets (islands in the EU, Caribbean, Pacific etc., or remote sites e.g. mining operations, off-grid towns etc.)

Local Energy Systems

Ricardo provides technical and commercial analysis to help develop local energy systems across the UK. These include wind, hydro and solar PV systems connected to the grid, systems serving customers and off grid systems. Increasingly these sources are combined with storage and local electricity sales.

Candidates with the experience for 1) would have an advantage if they also have experience in 2) local energy systems.

Desirable experience in local energy systems would include:

Experience of developing onshore wind, hydro or solar PV projects in the 50kW to 10MW range;

Experience in emerging local energy solutions, e.g. energy storage, hydrogen etc.

Working Arrangements

The focus is to serve our client base in Scotland, hence the job is based in our office in central Glasgow. The successful candidate would largely work on 1) and 2), but also be able to develop skills and experience to contribute to other client work, from policy analysis, due diligence and audits of energy systems.
