AECOM is seeking an ambitious Arboricultural consultant to support our growing team in the north of England. This is an exciting opportunity to join an international consulting business and to work on a wide range of projects from small individual tree assessments to large scale developments, in the UK and overseas as the team is looking to expand. The position is ideally based in Leeds, but the candidate could also be based from our Manchester or Liverpool offices.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Undertake trees surveys for both planning purposes and to assess tree condition.

  • Prepare and contribute to arboricultural reports to BS 5837:2012, Arboricultural Impact Assessments (AIA), Arboricultural Method Statements (AMS), tree condition reports and risk assessments.

  • Provide guidance on arboricultural issues and communicate technical concepts and principles to both clients and professional colleagues.

  • Working independently, or with other arboricultural and landscape professionals, in the planning, delivery and management of arboricultural services.

  • Work collaboratively and iteratively within a multi-disciplinary design team.

  • Comply with internal business management procedures, including in relation to health and safety and technical quality of all advice and outputs.

Minimum Requirements

  • Suitable Arboricultural Qualification (e.g. Technicians Certificate or equivalent)

  • Ability to write reports and communicate technical information in relation to trees to non specialists. An understanding of the planning process and production of technical information

  • A sound level of arboricultural knowledge, including BS5837:2012 BS8545:2014 and BS3998:2010, be competent in tree identification, inspection, condition assessment and necessary management options.

  • Technicians Certificate in Arboriculture (or equivalent NQF Level 4 qualification).

  • Knowledge of relevant UK legislation, best practice and policy relating to arboricultural matters.

  • Professional, organised and thorough approach to work which demonstrates an attention to detail.

  • Proven ability to work closely and collaboratively with colleagues and clients, as well as to manage own time.

  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, in particular, the ability to write concise technical reports.

  • A flexible approach to work to meet peaks in demands as the roles is likely to involve occasional overnight stays within the UK.

  • Proactive and careful approach to Health and Safety.

  • IT skills should include Microsoft Office with the use of AutoCAD, GIS and industry graphics packages being an advantage within this role.

  • A full driving licence will be required.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Lantra Professional Tree Inspection qualification

  • Evidence of recent active training and CPD within the arboricultural industry

  • Ideally previous experience should include undertaking tree condition surveys, the production of BS5837 level survey and reporting work, the management of trees on development sites and familiarity with Statutory Designations relating to trees.

  • Ability to use AutoCAD.

  • Previous experience using digital data collection devices, GPS and GIS Software.
