The Ecological Modeler will deliver ecological consultancy and advisory services to both internal and external clients to a high level of technical quality and to programme and budget.

Job Duties:

  • Statistical modelling of survey and remotely sensed data collected across space and through time

  • Assist in the improvement of analytical workflows by developing reproducible code and employing version control (e.g. Git, SVK, etc.)

  • Helping others with a desire to improve workflows

  • Identify novel uses for existing data and analysing this appropriately

  • Collaborative with partners, internally and externally, to identify gains in terms of workflow/economics

  • Presenting findings to internal and external partners

  • Supporting liaison with project managers and clients on the delivery of ecological requirements within multi-disciplinary tenders and projects;

  • Assisting with managing the technical and financial performance of ecological projects to meet budgets and deadlines;

  • Communicating effectively with their line manager, project managers, clients, project teams and other members of the ecology team, within projects and with clients by telephone, e-mail, letters and reports;

  • Compliance with internal business management procedures, including in relation to health and safety and technical quality of all advice and outputs; and

  • Undertaking other tasks which add value to the development of the ecology team or support wider environmental business goals, as required.

Specific Skills Required:

  • Fluent in R and/or Python

  • Experience in using ArcGIS or open-source alternatives (e.g. QGIS/Grass)

  • Ability to analyse large, complex datasets with appropriate statistical methods

  • Proven experience in geospatial analysis

  • Ability to translate potentially complex ideas, methods and results to a more general audience

  • Demonstrate data presentation skills

  • Excellent knowledge of IT systems and technology in general

Minimum Requirements

  • Technical and professional proficiency with a demonstrable history of successfully working in ecology including analysis of large datasets, within multi-disciplinary teams and completion of projects to a high standard, on time and within budgets

Additional Comments:

  • Experience with species distribution modelling

  • Experience with using the ‘tidyverse’

  • ‘R Shiny’ experience

Preferred Qualifications

  • Recognised degree in a biological, science or related discipline – a relevant post graduate qualification in the one of these would be advantageous;
