Acoustics Consultant focusing on environmental sound noise and vibration. Continued high and increasing workload in this area has led to a requirement for a Consultant with the ability to contribute to a wide range of acoustics projects, primarily in environmental acoustics, though the ability to contribute in buildings and other arears of acoustics is also desirable.

We are looking for a candidate who wants to help grow what is already one of the UKs largest acoustic consultancies.

The ideal candidate will have a track record of working in acoustics and preferably have experience of a range of acoustics commissions from small projects to major multi-disciplinary projects across a range of sound, noise and vibration (SNV) technical areas. They will have a strong background in acoustics, be someone who is innovative and is willing to exploit the latest technology, but who can explain acoustics to a non-technical audience.

Job Responsibilities:

The appropriate level of expertise is required in order that the Job / Project Accountabilities listed below can be carried out to the necessary standard:

  • We are looking for an enthusiastic individual keen to work collaboratively and iteratively within an established acoustics team. The successful candidate would also work across wider multi-disciplinary design teams and be expected to establishing strong working relationships with other internal teams, particularly within AECOM’s environmental and transportation divisions

  • The individual would have excellent technical, project management, presentation, report writing, commercial, personal organisation and communication skills.

  • The successful candidate will be expected to work and maintain relationships with both internal and external clients; lead the acoustic inputs to projects, manage the technical and financial aspect of projects and manage, mentor and teach junior staff.

  • They would be expected to undertake, oversee and technically review noise modelling using software such as SoundPLAN or CadnaA.

  • They would also be expected to undertake measurements, data analysis, predictions and write and technically review reports on a range of projects. Experience of displaying and manipulating datasets in GIS software would also be beneficial.

  • The position will be based in our Nottingham office; however there will be the need to visit sites and meetings across the UK and work away from home for short periods, potentially including overseas.

Minimum Requirements

  • Have a good understanding of Acoustics Assessments in a range of SNV project types; be capable of authoring technical SNV assessment reports and new work proposals.

  • Undertake predictions and write reports on a range of projects, be conversant with relevant standards and guidance, including CRTN and CRN, BS4142, BS5228, BS8233, DMRB and UK environmental acoustic legislation.

  • Experience of using a range or relevant software packages including noise modelling (such as SoundPLAN and/or Cadna-A), GIS and/or CAD, and Microsoft Office products.

  • Manage own workload to make time available to assist in the development of junior staff, including being available to provide on the job advice and instruction and to develop new lines of work or smarter ways of working.

Preferred Qualifications

  • A first degree (and preferably a post graduate qualification such as a Masters) in acoustics or relevant technical disciplines (e.g. Physics, Maths or Engineering)

  • MIOA or AMIOA and working towards MIOA

  • Chartered status or evidence of working towards this.

  • Driving licence.
