AECOM's Ground Engineering division is looking to recruit a Geotechnical Engineer to join our St. Albans based team. In particular we are looking for an ambitious and driven individual with several years postgraduate experience.

The Ground Engineering team has a broad portfolio of ongoing projects including infrastructure projects of strategic national significance, aspirational landmark buildings and bold new developments. Our work helps clients deliver challenging and complex projects in environmentally and economically sustainable ways. The Ground Engineering business line comprises over 200 staff in offices across the UK, with teams in different offices working closely together to deliver our projects in an agile manner.

The following provides a sample of our recent and current projects:

  • Ground Investigations for large new road schemes in the UK

  • Design of extensive flood alleviation infrastructure in the Middle East

  • Assessment of earthquake hazard risk to new and existing structures around the world

  • Foundation and basement design for landmark projects in London

The Ground Engineering team in St. Albans is a diverse and dynamic team working on a range of exciting projects. You will be working with experienced and knowledgeable geotechnical engineers and engineering geologists on projects that make a real difference to both the local area and the wider region.

Job Duties:

The Geotechnical Engineer will deliver consultancy and advisory services to both internal and external clients to a high level of technical quality and to programme and budget.

  • Scoping, tendering and supervision of ground investigations;

  • Data interpretation, parameter derivation and design of geotechnical works including slopes, foundations, retaining structures, earthworks, strengthened earthworks and ground improvement;

  • Contribute or lead the production of desk study, interpretive, design reports, technical notes and input to specification and contract documentation;

  • Working collaboratively within a multi-disciplinary design team interfacing directly with other ground engineering team members, other internal design teams from various disciplines and contractors;

  • You will take responsibility for delivery of small projects or parts of projects under senior guidance and will assist in the internal checking and review of work by other members of the geotechnical team. In due course you will become involved in bidding for jobs, and programme and budget control;

  • You will have strong development skills and the technical ability, knowledge and competence to provide guidance and teaching to junior staff, if and when required.

Minimum Requirements

  • Experience in specifying and managing ground investigation

  • Experience in geotechnical analysis and design

  • Full, clean UK driving licence

  • Working towards chartership with ICE or Geological Society

  • Proficiency in AutoCAD

  • Knowledge of engineering contracts

  • Experience with PLAXIS or other finite element software for geotechnical analysis

  • Experience with Oasys and Geostudio software for geotechnical analysis

Preferred Qualifications

  • A degree in Civil Engineering although individuals with an Engineering Geology or similar background will be considered.

  • You will have an MSc/MEng in Geotechnical Engineering, Engineering Geology or similar.
