This is an exciting opportunity to join our team as an area scientist. We are looking for someone who is skilled and self-motivated to provide process management and scientific expertise at our water recycling centres to maintain cost-effective environmental and regulatory compliance. You will report to the western lead scientist and work in partnership with other wastewater scientists as part of the area science team.

As a valuable member of our team, you will ensure compliance with quality standards at water recycling centres, including numerical, descriptive and flow consents. You will plan and install measures to improve quality and lead initiatives to reduce operational costs and minimise pollutions. Additionally, you will monitor and optimise the effectiveness of sewage treatment processes, optimise the use of treatment chemicals and provide process support in operational emergencies. You will also provide technical support to operational staff to protect and maintain quality, innovate new operational practices and provide cover for other area scientists.

The ideal candidate should have a degree or equivalent in a science, environmental or engineering subject and should be working towards or have attained membership to an appropriate professional body. Extensive knowledge and operational experience of waste water treatment is essential for this role, as is excellent computer skills (Microsoft Office). In addition, expertise in advanced treatment and sludge processes is desirable. You will also be efficient in problem solving, communicating, teamworking and having the ability to plan and prioritise work effectively.

A full driving licence is essential.
